How to wear winter knits

As the weather is getting colder and all we want to do is snuggle up in our chunky winter knits I thought I would do a piece on how to incorporate them into your work/day wardrobe to create a chic, flattering & stylish look.

Here are a few different looks:
Tuck a thin knit into a pair of high waisted trousers to ensure you are nipped in at the waist and to help elongate your leg.  I have paired a lurex electric blue knit with a pair of high waisted sand coloured trousers and added some tan boots (by maintaining the colour all the way from waist to toe it will also help to elongate your leg. This look is great for work while also working the jewel and metallic trend with the sparkly, sapphire blue knit.

Jumper: Topshop
Trousers: Miss Selfridge
Belt: Primark
Boots: New Look

Here I tucked in a silver glittery knit into a high waisted pleated leather skirt. By tucking in the jumper i can again ensure i emphasize the smallest part of my body my waist and also lengthen the all important legs (which on me are pretty short). This could also be worn to work, if you work in a relatively relaxed office and works the metallic and leather trends.

Jumper: H&M (this season)
Skirt: Oasis (this season)
Tights: Primark

Here I have teamed some velvet high waisted shorts with black tights, a denim shirt and a chunky cable knit cardigan. Again the shirt is tucked in to nip in the waist and the shorts are worn high with opaque black tights to try and make my legs look longer. This is more a weekend look, depending on your place of work, and works the velvet trend.

Cardigan: Topshop (last season)
Denim shirt: Topshop (this season)
Shorts: Topshop (this season)
Tights: Tesco

If you have a more chunky long jumper, instead of tucking it in, as it will look too bulky, simply add a waist belt to nip you in at the waist instead and team with some skinny jeans or leggings and then add some heeled boots that are the same colour to elongate your legs Here I am wearing a teal knitted jumper some skinny black leather effect jeans, some knee/thigh high black boots and a skinny waist belt. This is a chic, after work, casual evening or day look, that can be sexy and sophisticated.

Jumper: Toshop (this season)
Belt: Topshop (old)
Jeans: Topshop (old) but they have some similar in store now
Boots: Faith (old)

Here I have teamed a chunky coral coloured knit with a cream mesh skirt and paired it with a skinny brown belt to nip it in at the waist again. I have also put on some metallic gold tights and some tan boots.

Jumper: Topshop (this season)
Skirt: H&M (recent purchase)
Belt: Topshop (old)
Tights: Topshop (currently in store)
Boots: New Look

There is so many options available to us in terms of knits in store now but just make sure you make them look flattering by tucking in, if possible, pairing with a waist belt, wearing with skinny jeans or leggings or adding a gillet over a chunky knit to create a more streamline look over a really chunky jumper.

Happy shopping : )
